Used Coil Cars

Coil cars are used in the sheet metal industry.

A coil car is like a trolley with load-bearing wheels for transporting heavy loads.

Steel and metallurgy industry need coil cars especially in combination with slitting lines.

With the coil cars the coils are moved on the decoilers. In general the coil cars are traveling on rails for more flexibility. After the slitting process the strips are rolled on a recoiler and with a second coil car the slitted coil is taken off the recoiler.

The following problems have to be considered:
The coil usually has a weight that is in a relatively large range between 4 and 40 tons. To remove the coil from the mandrel, it must be raised in a very narrow tolerance range of a few millimeters, because if the lifting is too low or too high the mandrel is clamping and the coil can’t be pulled off.

With currently known coil cars on rails the coils can be lifted with the required precision and be removed with the necessary speed.
